St. Joseph Assembly 2246 Memorial Day Mass  at Calvary Cemetery

In cooperation with the Diocese of San Jose, St. Joseph Assembly provides Color Corps for the Memorial Mass that is celebrated every Memorial Day at Calvary Cemetery in San Jose to honor those who have given their lives for their country as well as all who have gone before us.

Mass begins at 11:00 AM with a procession to raise our national ensign and play taps. The Color Corps escorts the flag raisers, this year done by SKs Tim Crews and Skip Yenchik.

As the flag is being raised, taps is played and the Color Corps goes to salute swords. When the flag has touched the top of the flag pole, it is brought back to half-staff to honor those who given their lives in defense of our country.

The procession continues with the Honor Guard for Rev. Jack Greer, the Presider, as well as the Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers.

Those attending Mass have a covering to shade them from the sun. The Rev. Jack Greer was the Priest Presider and offered Mass under the cover of the entry way to the mausoleum. Fr. Greer shared something about himself during the homily. He told us the assembled congregation that at the age of 71, he recently celebrated his 4th anniversary of ordination having been ordained at the age of 67. Who says you're too old to answer the call.

Members of the St. Elizabeth Church Choir provided the music and songs for the liturgy. Many members of the Color Corps and the Assembly are members of the choir as well.

At the conclusion of Mass the procession went back to the office and we took the opportunity to take a group shot and made sure we included Father Jack Greer.
